When an entrepreneurial company was hoping to build a gondola to cross the river to the other side in my city of Edmonton, I started writing and recording a new song which I called "The Gondola Ride". In the back of my mind I had thoughts of turning it into a kind of soundtrack for the feeling of riding the gondola over the trees of our rather lush, forested river valley. For a while, I even thought that I might turn this song into a jingle that might be used to promote the gondola.

As I was recording the song while I was writing it in the studio, the song began to take a turn. I more or less gave up control to the song itself. The song became more of a little movie of the mind. A pleasureful and intriguing gondola ride morphed into something more sinister than I had expected.

In the end, I love what happened to The Gondola Ride. It didn't turn out as planned but, in this case, it's probably a good thing. I was disappointed that, ultimately, the building of the gondola in Edmonton didn't happen. But I am very satisfied that this song came into my musical world.
