about

This is the closing track of Side One on the album. It's a slow fader, and and a satisfying ending song before flipping the vinyl!

I remember just how my version of this famous Lennon & McCartney song was born. I had just gotten a new acoustic guitar, the first 'serious' acoustic guitar I've ever owned. I was trying it out at home, and the first song I thought of came to me as a memory of the melody and the lyrics of "There's a Place", which I believe was on the debut album by the Beatles.
As I was playing the song quietly and slowly, the melody of the song revealed itself to me as being more special than the original pop recording itself.

I liked playing it at a slow tempo so much that I decided to record it. I started with a simple programmed drum track and my acoustic guitar playing. As I added instrument sounds, I noticed a harmonica on my table that had likely been sitting there, un-played, for a couple years. At the right moment in the recording, I casually blew into the harmonica and it turned out to be in the perfect key. I went with it. Later on, the same thing happened when I noticed my tiny Korg Monotron hand-held synth on my desk. As the song was fading, I ran my finger along the keyboard strip (portimento) and there it was – the perfect 'imperfect' sliding notes that sounded a little drunken. Just what I wanted.

When I decided to put this on my album, both the vinyl and the digital release, I obtained the proper license to record and distribute it. So ... yes, I am a legal. What a cool song – thank you Lennon & McCartney!

lyrics

Hmmm ... I don't think I am allowed to print the lyrics of this fine Lennon & McCartney song, but I'm sure you can look it up.
